CHECK WRITING FRAUD PREVENTION

YouTube Video

For all of you who use regular pens for check writing, this short video is a must watch film.  Using a special design pen, such as the "Uniball 207" will prevent thieves from "washing" the Payee and Amount on your stolen checks, and inserting fictitious payees and unauthorized amounts.  This is a multi-million dollar fraud scheme that will only get worse.  But you don't have to be a victim.  Open a checking account at HONEA and receive a free "Uniball 207" pen.  You may also purchase the "Uniball 207" pen at retail outlets.  Look for the "Helps Prevent Check Fraud" on the packaging.

BEWARE OF TEXT, PHONE & E-MAIL SCAMS

These scams, called "phishing" have been prevalent these past weeks.  Their appearance may seem genuine, and may appear to come from families or friends, but do not respond to them or open any "links" that you are instructed to open.  If you suspect that a call may be bona fide, then the preferred procedure is to call that person directly and confirm verbally the request received by Texting or E-mail.

HONEA FCU and most financial institutions do not ask for personal or account information through phone texting or e-mailing. When in doubt, please call our office at (808) 841-22473.
