HONEA Federal Credit Union was formed in January 1952 by a group of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of the former Honolulu Engineers Area Office at Fort DeRussy, Hawaii.  The name “HONEA” is an acronym for the HONolulu Engineers Area Office.   At the time, the  Corps was stationed at Fort DeRussy.  In the forming of the credit union, the Fort DeRussy installation, which include the Hale Koa Hotel, became a part of the Field of Membership.  As the Corps moved on to Fort Armstrong, and eventually on to Fort Shafter, HONEA FCU also followed the migration to Fort Armstrong and to Fort Shafter in October 1974.

Credit unions came into existence when Congress passed the Federal Credit Union Act, and President Roosevelt signed the law in 1934. The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is an independent federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions.  More information about NCUA and credit unions, including HONEA FCU, charter number 7594, can be obtained from the internet: www.ncua.gov     Click here to NCUA

Financial statements may be obtained from NCUA's website.

February 17, 2010    NCUA approved a charter amendment to add Civilian personnel and U.S.Dept of Army personnel stationed at, assigned to, Fort Shafter, Hawaii
